Your Tomorrow Alone Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
We’re promoting our first record “Ordinary Lives” these days, trying to play live as much as possible. We played a show in our hometown Salerno and we’ re planning our next gigs.

2. How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?

Considering it is our first album, we can’t make any comparison except for our 2010 demo. We’re pretty satisfied with both the arrangement and the recording of our songs, which took place at the Sonic Temple Studio in Salerno. The album goes into the direction of English bands like Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and early Anathema, without forgetting Katatonia and Opeth.

3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?

The lyrical subjects deal with everyday life, things like sorrow, loss, solitude, anguish and despair. Here and there a tiny bit of hope enters the picture, but the majority of the lyrics are reflections on how life can be bleak when we lose the courage to face our inner demons and try to be better persons.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

The concept behind the name of the band deals with the idea of “loneliness among others” and “existential solitude”, felt by those who are isolated because of their convictions. Those who are “alone” are not inclined to accept compromises and agreements both with other people and with the social schemes, because of their strong beliefs and their adaptation problems. “Alone” is the one who hides himself among thousands of “normal” faces, leading a dramatic condition of existential solitude that cannot be understood by those who are not like him. To the “normal” ones a lonely man does not exist, as he is trapped in his prison of incommunicability and misunderstanding.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

We’re proud we have been given the opportunity to play with bands like thrash metallers Delirio and the very good doom band In Aevum Agere, which both come from or land. On a stage we try to be as committed as possible to communicate the pathos and the emotions of our songs. A doom metal band concert should be a sort of a theatrical experience for the crowd.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the new release?

We don’t have a real tour nowadays, but we’re trying to play as many shows as we can in our country.

7. On a worldwide level how has your music been received by fans of gothic and doom metal?

When we released our demo-cd two years ago, we received good feedback both from Europe and America. Our record will be released worldwide via My Kingdom Music, so we hope we’ll be able to reach a far wider audience on a global scale, hoping that our music will be appreciated.

8. Are there any other projects besides this band or is this a full time line-up?

No, at the moment we’re all 100% committed to this project. The recording process of Ordinary Lives finished a few months ago and now we are going to promote the album live. So, there’s little space for other artistic projects.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We will surely develop what we’ve expressed on this album, maybe a little more on the progressive side, without altering our musical personality that has its roots in the trusty old gloomy doom metal.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

As we said before, all in the band are influenced by English gothic/doom metal, but we also listen to Italian progressive rock and classical music as well. They are all things we try to mix up and put in our songs. We listen to a wide palette of genres spanning from metal to rock, from jazz to funk.

11. Outside of music what are some of your interests?

We all love the beauty of landscapes and the classical art Italy is so famous for. They’re a real source of inspiration for us.

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

We thank you for this interview and we salute all  DoomedToDarkness readers.
Doom on!!!
